Review of Ocean Casino Resort, Atlantic City, NJ (New Jersey)

Ocean Casino Resort, Atlantic City, NJ

Ocean Casino Resort originally opened as the ‘Revel Casino Hotel’ in 2012 at the cost of $2.4 billion.  Revel was expected to open a new era of Las Vegas style gaming, entertainment, and dining options in Atlantic City.  Boasting the highest floors of any hotel in Atlantic City, it has many things going for it, including a floor to ceiling windows in all ocean view rooms, spacious rooms/bathrooms, and number of dining and entertainment options.

Revel was supposed to have two hotel towers, but the lack of funding changed that plan to just one hotel tower.  It also went through multiple bankruptcies and changed ownerships several times.  It would come out under the new name ‘Ocean Casino Resort’ in June of 2018.

Despite all the turmoil since its opening, Ocean Casino Resort is truly a beautiful and a modern hotel.  The striking feature of the hotel is the giant white golf ball that sits on top of the hotel tower.  Other unique feature is the hotel lobby, located on the 11th floor, while the casino is located on the 6th floor.

The gaming floor is huge at 138,000 square feet.  Unlike most casinos, there are ocean view gaming areas at the Ocean Casino Resort, which is unique!  Most casinos would prefer dark lighting and no windows...

Most dining options are located on the 6th floor.  The ‘District’ include many fast / fast casual dining options while upscale dining options are nearby.  You won’t go hungry there!  There are Wahlburgers (burger joint), Zhen Bang (Chinese), Villain & Saint, among others.

My wife and I took a 2 night/3 days trip to Ocean Casino Resort and we absolutely had a great time.  Our first impression of the hotel was the bright and modern hotel lobby/check in area.  Ocean views were abundant right off of the hotel lobby.  Unlike many hotels that are incredibly dark inside, this hotel is airy and bright, taking full advantage of the sun.

We checked into our room on a high floor, with fantastic ocean views facing east.  Thanks to the floor to ceiling windows, the room was really bright.  We didn’t need lights in the room to be turned on!

We next checked the bathroom, which was super clean with a modern lighting system.  It also had a separate shower and a toilet with its own doors.  It also had a refrigerator which was a nice touch.  Hotels in Las Vegas do not have that amenity as standard these days...

We sat down to take a little rest enjoying the ocean views.  We watched all kinds of boats sailing by, and we watched seagulls hovering nearby.  It was just perfect!

We went down after several minutes to grab something to eat.  We tried our hands at the ‘District’ and the taco stand.  The nachos were spicy but tasty, and tacos were excellent as well!  We also tried Wahlburger’s and Zhen Bang the following day.  Both were good!

My favorite part of Ocean Casino Resort has to be the pool.  It’s a huge indoor / outdoor pool that is interconnected.  I took a nice dip in the pool.  The best part:  there was no one at the pool that day.  I had the pool all by myself!

My wife and I also enjoyed the gym.  It had all the latest running machines, weights, ellipticals, etc.

The following day, we went to check out the Boardwalk for some exercise.  The one major plus of Ocean Casino Resort is the Boardwalk.  It connects outside the ground floor and it provides a great place to enjoy the ocean.  There are plenty of people enjoying fishing, jogging, walking, and relaxing.

We decided to go all the way out to the far north end of the Boardwalk.  Views were simply majestic!

Here are our pros and cons of the Ocean Casino Resort:

Pros:
  • Location:  It’s next to the Showboat, the Atlantic City Pier, and the Hard Rock Hotel.  Easily walkable from Ocean Casino Resort.
  • New and modern hotel and hotel room:  Arguably the nicest rooms in Atlantic City.
  • Ocean views:  Every room has a view of the ocean.  We took full advantage of that!
  • Many dining options:  There are inexpensive options (pizzas, Italian, burgers, diner), mid priced options, and upscale options.
  • The taco stand ‘Districto’:  Awesome Mexican!
  • Pool:  Beautiful indoor/outdoor pool.
  • Gym: Modern gym with all the latest equipment.
  • Many lounge areas:  Near the hotel lobby, both indoor and outdoor lounge areas are available.   Some outside lounges have fire pits!
  • Walk out to the garden area with ocean views from the hotel lobby.
  • Fast WiFi in the room and throughout the hotel
Cons:
  • High resort fees:  It was $37 per night!
  • Some furniture were a bit worn, especially the chair.
We really enjoyed our time at the Ocean Casino Resort.  The room was beautiful and so was the hotel.  It helps that the hotel itself is under 10 years old.  The ocean views were really awesome no matter the time of the day.  We watched the sunrise, we watched the morning waves hitting the beach, and we watched as the sun started to set in the late afternoon.

We would love to visit again in the near future!
